Bruno Turpin is a self-taught painter born in the Cotentin Island, France and son of a fisherman. Bruno grew up in a marine atmosphere (he himself was enrolled in the merchant navy). After having finished his scientific studies, he began in the 90s to travel at dawn the coast of Cotentin and Brittany with his longboard and his brushes. Very quickly his paintings of Surf Culture were sold, exhibited and published internationally. Also in 2018 Bruno is published in the "Surf Story" art book, which is featuring 200 of the surf culture’s most influential artists, writers, photographers and iconic figures spanning more than 50 years. Today his watercolors embrace a much broader and more eclectic universe. Bruno watercolor with passion mostly in plein air in various places, keeping a strong connection with coastal and ocean life
I have a passion for the ocean... actually a passion for movement, light and life. When I became surfer exploring the coast and the waves, I also became a pleain air painter. All these years of experience have shaped a vast world images and sensations that constantly feed my painting. Living both in Granville and Paris broadened the scope of my palette with scenes and urban landscapes, while keeping my oceanic universe. I paint what I simply love. Plein Air painting is a pure moment of happiness that leads you to paint life in the moment present... is also to be directly connected to the place, to the atmosphere and to people. Using watercolor as a medium is for me a completely natural way: as all life is linked to water and its movement, it's the perfect medium by essence. I paint with passion and above all to have fun.
